The Notary shall act as an impartial witness and not profit or gain from any document or transaction requiring a notarial act, apart from the fee allowed by statute.
This is the second of the NNA's Guiding Principles. It sort of surprises me that this one…

As I was reading over blogs and forums here on the Rain and other places over the Internet, the idea came to
me that many people just have never taken the time to research the various words associated with being a notary public.
So--here ar…

Okay, let's get some feedback on this, it has happened to all of us.
I received a call two days ago, on Christmas Eve, asking if I could do a closing on the 26th at 6:00 p.m.
I have done closings for this lady before, always on the up and up. On the ball with docs and payments. She informed me she would be in the office on the 26th…

If your company does not offer its services/products online, then you're definitely living in the Stone Age.
Businesses today realize that in order to stay competitive, they have to communicate with today's audience who do business primarily online.
Running an online business means that you have a global audience. And having a global audience means that your store is up and running twenty four hours every day and seven days of the week. While your customers from New York might b…

It's a simple thing, but most notaries have not actually went and read the laws for their state, themselves.
They may read the Secretary of State's Handbook.
They may read the handouts given by the County Official over n…

I will not name the county but I had the following experience:
I met a couple at her place of employment to notarize a loan package.
She kept looking at my seal, it is a rubber stamp, round imprint in blue ink. It meets the State of Tennessee Law.
After we were done the lady asked me why my seal was blue. I quoted the law wher…

I have come to wonder this on more than one occasion.
Let me just list some of the situations that have come up:

File Cabinets
Do I maintain one? YES!
Should you? Probably.
For me, my system is simple, efficient and works. It may or may not work for you.

First of all I have the hanging folders and use manila, fifth cut folders inside those.
I have the green ones labelled as follows;

I like to do my bookkeeping the old fashioned way--by way of paper and pens or pencil.
My first form for this is another spreadsheet. It has headings for the borrower's name, the company that contracted with me, the agreed upon fee, the date payment is due to be mailed out, the date I dropped the docs, the shipper, the tracking number and…

Organization--it's that part of the the business that can drive people nuts. Most people fall to one extreme or the other-- too much of it or not enough. Blessed are those that find the middle ground.
I do not presume to be able to tell you how to or…

One of the most difficult things to do when you start a new business is putting together a budget. Without any financial history on which to base income and expenses, it may seem like guesswork, but as part of any business plan a tentative budget can be established with some thought and anticipation for the future.
In most businesses there are two main categories, income and expense. Under your expense category there can be several sub-categories often falling into two main areas of co…

I had not given much thought to matters of safety as I traveled from various locations performing my duties of a Loan Signing Agent and Notary Public. I live in a relatively, friendly low crime area. Usually, the process goes like this - I receive a call from a signing or title company to perform a loan closing. When I arrive at the home, I am often greeted by an anxious,…

This weekend I drove down Hwy 94 to survey some of the fire damage from the Harris fire. Highway 94 mostly skirted around the northern edge of the fire but there were places where the road was burned on both sides. At the time of this blog I believe the Harris and Witch Creek fires are officially contained but the firefighters are still fighting the Poomacha fire on Palomar Mountain.
I took some pictures that I will post here. While I saw some burned down homes, I did not take pictures…

I'm a mobile notary like yourself and when the mortgage industry took the downslide I went from making a good income, to almost nothing! I'm lucky to get 2-4 signings a week. So, since I wanted to continue to work from home and manage myself, rather than go back into the corporate world I decided to take a look at my options.

I haven't done any signings this week but you know what? God is good, therefore life is good. I am on the Medifast diet and it works. I started on July 18th and in 2 weeks had had lost 25 pounds! I had gone off of it for 2 weeks but I am back on track. Total weight loss to date is 35 pounds! I am just excited about it.

July is getting to be my least favorite month. My beautiful Scottish Fold cat died. She wasn't that sick when I took her to the vet--what happened there must have hastened her demise. But my Dad's a retired vet and I know you don't win 'em all. She was 13 or 14 years old (I think) which is fairly old for that breed of cat, but still... I miss her so much. She was so friendly and affectionate without being annoying. She was a cat that dog lovers loved. She was so gentle that I could tell child…
